Our Verdict

We love the Lululemon Train ⅞ for hot yoga. Usually, fabric that is more breathable will sacrifice its ability to compress, which makes the pants more comfortable for hotter temperatures. The Onzie are incredibly breathable, but lack compression and sometimes felt like they were sliding down our hips during a class. The Lululemon Train ⅞ used mesh fabric venting in strategic spots to allow for more breathability in addition to a sweat-wicking fabric. This combination of features make this award winner an excellent choice for any yoga class where the instructor likes to crank up the heat.

Our Analysis and Test Results

The Lululemon Train ⅞ is made from an engineered fabric Lululemon named "Full-On Luxtreme". It is constructed from 69% Nylon and 31% Lycra elastane. This combination makes the leggings tight and compressive but very breathable, especially with the mesh panels located on both legs. They come in sizes 0-14 and have a variety of colors to choose from; they're 25" in length, which makes for a capri style fit, which we loved for practicing in heated rooms.

Breathability

When we take part in a hot yoga class, we leave drenched and sweaty, which is one of the reasons we love this type of practice (along with how cleansed we feel after). That being said, certain yoga pants trap in heat and sweat and make us feel like we have to waddle through awkwardly drenched leggings. The Train Time performs exceptionally in this metric; not only did they earn top scores for breathability, but they also didn't sacrifice compression to achieve this level of breathability. They also stay in place and look great on.

The material used for the Lululemon Train leggings wicks away sweat and dries quickly. The mesh panels on both legs also increased the ventilation, making these the perfect pick for a heated practice. Within minutes of leaving class and heading out to run a few errands, our pants were dry! We were so impressed with this material that we gave it high scores here.

Certain models in this review offered excellent breathability but were too thin to provide any support or comfort and we ended up constantly adjusting them during our practice or worrying about the see-through material. The Train stays securely in place, and if anything, ran a little on the small side. They were a bit tight; we would recommend sizing up if you are considering purchasing this award winner.

Ease of Movement

The Train ⅞ maintains a wonderful level of compression while still being breathable, as we highlight above. However, we purchased the same size in the Lululemon Align II and found the two leggings offer a completely different fit.

We would recommend trying these on in the store or ordering your typical size and one size up (and returning a pair or selling to a friend) to avoid experiencing tightness and restriction, as we did. Once you have the proper size, these yoga pants feel like a dream on and allow for excellent ease of movement in any practice.

Comfort and Fit

Despite ordering in our typical size, these pants were tight. We ordered these in the same size that we tested the Lululemon Align II in and found these to fit differently. While the Train can feel incredibly tight if you've not matched your correct size and their waistband can be a bit restrictive, these are comfortable. They are soft and feel and look great; if you are looking for a breathable pair of yoga, running, or workout pants - the Train ⅞ are tight, compressive, and breathable and perform well in a Crossfit gym or heated yoga class.

Durability

Unlike the Lululemon Align II pants, these leggings had less pilling over the testing period and proved to be durable than some of the other options in our fleet. The Lululemon Align II have special instructions to lay flat to dry for better longevity, which we recommend doing for the yoga pants that you own.

We wore these pants to various yoga classes, on trail runs, and while climbing. The light-colored material we tested showed dirt easily when worn outside the studio, so they weren't our favorite all-around pair, but the material never snagged and held up incredibly well for most activities. The compression and breathability factors make them a great training legging for most activities.

Style

We loved how these pants fit; you can also purchase them in a variety of colors and patterns. The mesh panel placements and material add to the sleek design. If you are looking for a pair of pants with a bit more of those "statement" patterns, then we recommend checking out the Onzie for those bold designs.

Value

Lululemon prices the Train quite high, which makes them one of the most expensive pairs in our review. If you're looking to save some dough, we do feature a few models in the review that cost much less and still provide exceptional performance, like the 90 Degree.

Conclusion

The Lululemon Train leggings do a great job of balancing compression and breathability - while looking stylish. Their sweat-wicking fabric dries impressively fast, and the mesh panels keep you cool, even in the hottest of classes. They are exceptionally durable for their breathable fabric and barely had any pilling after the testing period. These pants make for a great multifaceted pair of leggings that are excellent for any high-intensity aerobic workout, including your favorite Bikram classes.

Their only downfall is the tight fit. We ordered the same size in both Lululemon models and found these to be distractingly tight and a bit on the uncomfortable side, when not sized correctly. If you are going to order a pair of these pants, we recommend sizing up. All in all, we loved these for any yoga class, and their impressive breathability is why they earned high scores for hot yoga.
