Our Verdict

The Marmot Trestles 15 is an inexpensive yet bulky and heavy bag. It is a great choice for any car camping trip where weight is not a concern, but comfort is preferential. Its two side zippers allow you to fully stick your arms and torso out of the bag for warmer nights while reading or hanging out in the tent. While it is heavy, it is also super warm, keeping us comfortable in temperatures that reached into freezing conditions. Not only that but with its synthetic construction, it is designed to keep you warm when wet. While we liked the funky pattern of the inner liner, we think it feels a bit cheap. If you seek an option that will simply keep you warm and comfortable, this inexpensive option might be right for you.

Our Analysis and Test Results

The Trestles is an inexpensive synthetic option for all your car camping needs. While its super warm and comfortable, it lost major points because it is the heaviest bag in this review. If weight and packed size are not big concerns, take a gander at this behemoth.

Warmth

The Trestles' thick, bulky and heavy synthetic material does make for a warm and cozy sleeping bag. It is rated to 16.7 F which we think is a little ambitious. The bag has a roomy cut, making it colder around the feet as there is extra space for air to cool around you.

For the women's version of this bag, Marmot claims to have added extra insulation in the foot box and head areas, which is an added bonus. The women's Trestles bag boasts 13 ounces more fill weight over the men's bag that is rated to the same temperature (15 F).

Weight

The Trestles is a super heavy bag, weighing in at a whopping 4.5 pounds! Because of its heavy design, we would not recommend using it while backpacking. Instead, take it with you while car camping in cold weather or while tenting in the backyard.

Comfort

The Trestles has a roomy and comfortable fit, and the weight of the synthetic fill is comforting on long cold nights. While it feels good around the body, the liner materials feel cheap and aren't as nice as other high-quality contenders.

Packed Size

As we've mentioned, this is a bulky, heavy sleeping bag. The Trestles does come with a compression stuff sack to help with this problem, but it still is much larger than the other bags in this review and doesn't compress down that small.

Features

The Trestles has some handy features, which also contribute to its weight. It has two zippers, one full length and the second 21" long so you can free your arms and torso to sit up or read a book. This option adds to the comfort if you're planning on spending a lot of time in your sleeping bag. The Trestles also has a small outside pocket for stashing small items like headlamps or phones.

Best Application

This contender would be a great choice for any car camping adventure in cooler weather. We slept out in about 30F with no problems and felt warm. It is too heavy to recommend taking out on extended backpacking trips, but maybe for short distances for just a night or two.

Value

The Trestles is a very inexpensive sleeping bag and we think it is a good value for the price.

Conclusion

The Trestles is a warm but heavy sleeping bag for a decent price. It would be a great choice for a car camping sleeping bag for cooler climates. It's pretty comfortable and we like the liner fabrics pattern and the little stow pocket. It is a better value than the men's version.
