Signal spikes

Definition from OutdoorGearLab's Gear and Jargon Dictionary

A spike is a false maximum reading from a beacon. If your beacon does not handle spikes well, or you don't know how to account for spikes in your search, it will lead to a spot a few feet away from the victim. Therefore, we recommend beacons that handle spikes well, which is most 3 antennae beacons. If your beacon does not handle spikes well you need to know how to account for the spikes and generally probe more (which takes more time). Here is a great informative article on spikes.
