REASONS TO AVOID
Toe strap stretches
Plastic material
Lack of style
The Crocs Modi Flip are an extremely versatile, stable and durable sandal. They also offer excellent traction, especially in wet conditions, are inexpensive, and have supportive arches and a molded footbed. A few thins we don't like about these are the plastic feel of the material, the fact that they stretched quite a bit in the strap, the lack of style points awarded, and the initial chaffing and blisters we got from our initial few weeks in them.

Our Analysis and Test Results

The Crocs Modi Flip excel in stability and durability, especially in wet conditions. Unfortunately from the standpoint of style and overall performance we felt there are better options out there. Read on to learn why.

Comfort and Fit

Off the bat the Crocs feel a bit stiff and strange, compared to a "normal" flip flop. This is likely the more synthetic feeling material. We noticed that this shoe hugs your feet quite tight initially, and as a result caused blisters on our feet as well as on the feet of many anonymous reviewers out there. Overall we were unhappy with the general level of comfort, feel of the material, and abrasiveness of the top strap. We recommend someone interested in comfort looking into the more stable, more versatile, and overall higher performing OluKai Ohana.

get sweaty in them.

Stability / Versatility

We liked our Crocs when it was raining or when we knew there was a good chance of getting wet. Aside from that we didn't find them as comfortable, as stable, and generally as versatile as other shoes. The first major expedition on these was a 2 hour approach up El Cajon mountain in San Diego. They did excellent on the way up, but after only a few hours of intense rock scrambling we noticed on the way down that they had already stretched a bit and offered less stability than only hours before. A later hike in them made us aware that they were just going to continue to get worse over time. We recommend sticking with normal day to day use, and especially bringing these out during wet weather.

Durability

Durability was the Crocs strongest attribute, and from the perspective of how long lasting a flip flop can be, we rate these at the top. It is very doubtful that the material underfoot would wear out and the top strap on these is bomber. The one questionable piece is the actual thong strap, which we could see breaking or popping out over time. However our scan of reviews showed no report of the thong breaking, only the sole becoming separated on rare occasions which is something easily fixed with a little crazy glue (ducktape?).

Style

Compared to the Rainbow Premier Leather Sandal, the Crocs don't do very well in our polls or with our peers from the standpoint of style. From a purely technical standpoint they are only offered in 3 color / pattern variations. The plastic look and feel is a little shiny and just looks a bit cheap for being seen in. Finally the toe strap angle is a little too much of a Star Trek V shape for our personal taste. But don't let us talk you out of these. After all, who are we to judge.

Traction

The Crocs Modi Flip offers fair to good overall traction, but is especially designed for wet weather conditions. Not only do our feet stay in the shoe when wet, but the sole of the shoe seems to almost grip better on wet surfaces. We highly recommend these as a rainy day shoe where you might be walking on uneven ground.

Best Applications

Walking, talking, hiking, and socializing - especially in the rain.

Value

At $35 retail, and often found on sale, the Crocs do offer a great product for a low price point. We especially recommend these to those outdoor enthusiasts living in Oregon or Washington that see a lot of rain, or I guess anywhere where it is warm enough to wear flip flops in the rain.
