The Osprey Stratos 36 is the larger version of the Osprey Stratos 24 that was covered in a full review by OutdoorGearLab. Both Stratos packs have the unique suspension system that for ventilation separates the pack from your back like the system used by the Osprey Talon packs… only more so. And therein lies a problem.
With the Stratos packs, but not the Talons, the space between the pack and your back is such that when loaded up the pack can tip you backward. So while the Talon pack we fully reviewed was crowned as our Editors' Choice; the Stratos was not.
Both Stratos packs come in three sizes: S, M, and L. Moving up the size ladder, the Stratos 24 had a capacity of 22, 24 and 26 liters. The Stratos 36 had capacities running from 34 to 36 to 38 liters, depending on size.
The Stratos 36 weighs eight ounces more than the Stratos 24 in every size, topping out at three pounds, two ounces. The Stratos 36 lists at $140, although discounts are often available. Both come in four colors: blue, green, black and dark red.
