Our Verdict

The Metolius Chalk Sock is the least expensive chalk sock we know of. Most other chalk balls are $4 or more and the Bison Ball is $6. However, the fact that you can't refill the sock as you can with the Metolius Refillable Chalk Sock will cost you some cash in the long run as you can't buy your future chalk in bulk and refill it. We found that the chalk already inside the sock was too fine-grained and was very difficult to get out of the sock. The sock itself was also very large so make sure you've got a good-sized chalk bag. Overall we much prefer the Metolius Eco Ball which performed better and is non-marking. If having a chalk sock isn't a high priority for you, or you're looking for some bulk chalk to refill your sock we recommend Black Diamond White Gold.

Our Analysis and Test Results

Likes

The Metoliuss chalk sock is your basic chalk sock, filled with Metolius Super Chalk. When using the sock, we used about half as much chalk as when we just had loose chalk in our chalk bag. The Chalk Sock lasts a long time and even once it is empty, the cloth, when combined with loose chalk, still helps get your palm chalked up.

Dislikes

The sock itself was a little on the large side, and required a large chalk bag to accommodate it. Our testing also showed that the chalk inside the sock is extremely fine and powdery, and it took a significant amount of jiggling and squeezing to get an adequate coat of chalk on our hands. If youre the type that doesnt need a whole lot of chalk, this could be perfect for you. In addition to a rather dismal flow of chalk, we also found the chalk inside the sock to be quite different from the loose Super Chalk that we tested and not quite as effective.

Best Applications

Perfect for the beginner buying their first chalk sock, or for use in a gym scenario where loose chalk is either inappropriate or prohibited. If you don't care about the refillable option, the standard Chock Sock is lower profile because it doesn't have the extra drawstring and plastic gizmo.
